Enabling the business-based Internet of Things and Services
The ebbits project does research in architecture, technologies and processes, which allow businesses to semantically integrate the Internet of Things into mainstream enterprise systems and support interoperable end-to-end business applications. It will provide semantic resolution to the Internet of Things and hence present a new bridge between backend enterprise applications, people, services and the physical world. The ebbits platform features a Service oriented Architecture (SoA) based on open protocols and middleware, effectively transforming every subsystem or device into a web service with semantic resolution. The ebbits platform thus enables the convergence of the Internet of People (IoP), the Internet of Things (IoT) and the Internet of Services (IoS) into the “Internet of People, Things and Services (IoPTS)” for business purposes.

Successful ebbits demo at the IoT Week
At the IoT Week 2012 in Venice, ebbits had a robot demo running, showing online data transmission and interaction between physical devices and the ebbits platform.

On 9th May the EC cluster FInES (Future Internet Enterprise Systems) which ebbits is part of, ran a workshop in Aalborg, Denmark titled "Translating Knowledge into Growth: Views from ICT Research to Support Future Business Innovation".

The 
Vice-President of the European Commission, Neelie Kroes was introduced to ebbits and its vision to develop a service platform, which enables customers, manufacturers and enterprise systems to gain online information about a product throughout its lifecycle.

The fourth Future Internet Award competition is now open. The Award recognises excellence in innovation among European national and regional Future Internet projects and initiatives. The closing date for entry is 6 April 2012 and the winner will be announced at the closing ceremony of Aalborg’s Future Internet Week, 7-11 May, 2012.
IST-Africa 2012
The conference which is hosted by the Government of Tanzania and supported by the European Commission, takes place on 9-11 May 2012 in Tanzania. It brings together senior representatives from leading commercial, government and research organisations across Africa and from Europe. This year the focus is on applied ICT, including RFID and Networked Enterprise.
Workshop paper accepted at Mobile HCI 2011conference
Partners FIT, SAP, and TNM have had a joint workshop paper accepted at the Mobile HCI conference which will be held late August in Stockholm, Sweden.
Final stage of position paper on Future Internet and Enterprise Systems
The EU cluster FInES which ebbits is part of has developed the final position paper on Orientations for FP8 for the European Commission.
ebbits may contribute to FP8
At the last FInES cluster meeting (http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/ict/enet/fines-meeting-20101007-content_en.html), we launched a group of 3 editors composed of leaders of three Task Forces (Research Roadmap, Digital Agenda and Business) + the Commission to prepare a 4-page paper to serve as input to the preparation of the European Commission's Information Society Directorate-General paper on the orientations for FP8.
ebbits creates strong affiliation with research clusters
The ebbits project has started the process of creating strong links with important European research clusters. As a first step, the project has affiliated with the FInES cluster, the Future Internet Enterprise Systems (FInES) cluster leading taskforces in International Relations and Manufacturing and Industry.
The ebbits project has started
The ebbits Kick-Off meeting has been organised by the coordinator Fraunhofer FIT at the Schloss Birlinghoven in Sankt Augustin near Bonn. Twenty five participants from all nine partners are getting together to discuss the overall vision and objectives of the project and to present the detailed objectives of the individual work packages.More news from the FInES Cluster
FInES Position Paper towards Horizon 2020: 1st draft now available!
After iterative fruitful discussions and brainstorming among the coordination team, the first draft of the FInES Position Paper «Embarking on New Research Orientations towards Horizon 2020» is now publicly available!
FInES Cluster Meeting on May 6th, 2013: Presentations Now Available!
The next FInES Cluster meeting will be held on Monday May 6th, 2013, at the EC DG CONNECT premises in Brussels (BU 25 0/S1, Avenue de Beaulieu 25, Room 0/S1, 1160 Brussels). The meeting is expected to be a milestone event in the history of the Cluster (see recent developments reported in the March 2013 edition of the FInES Cluster Newsletter)....
Re-registration to the Mailing List
The FInES Cluster mailing list is open to all interested stakeholders. As a follow up of the reorganization of DG CONNECT in July 2012, the database of contacts of the FInES Cluster (www.fines-cluster.eu) is now managed by the cluster community itself.
